Landscape images for painting unencumbered by copyright limitations
The late 20th century and early 21st century is a time when artists are confused or limited by issues of copyright. Images published in magazines, or on the net are copy written and therefore unavailable for artists to reproduce.
If an artist lives a distance from a location, en plein air paintings becomes impossible or financially demanding. However, most venues require that images produced for display not be copy written or must be released to the artist.
I have a solution. I have produced a CD with about 180 images of a unique place in South Eastern Oregon. It is a wonderful place to paint and the location for the Northwest Pastel Society 2002 Expedition. It is a volcanic region managed by the USDI-BLM and by the State of Oregon (all public property). I have posted a few of the images from that disk below. What I am selling is the disk and permission to paint from the images. The artist has permission to reproduce any or all of the images as his or her own work. Owning the CD gives an artist license to paint from the images on the CD. By keeping the CD you have proof of "model release" for all pictures on the CD. Although that person does not have permission to reproduce electronically any of the images or sell either the disk or any images on the disk, the subjects are there for the artist to create as he or she wishes. You can use "photo-realism" to abstract. You own what you create! You have rights to what you create.

As you can see from the images posted here, the photographs are of a wilderness area known for its unusual rock formation, wild life, plants and colors. This CD has been created to give the artist the closest possible reproduction of the landscape. Along with the images is a description of the area, index to each image, and instructions on how a person might get there if the opportunity arose. The images are saved on the disk in large JPeG format (from 1 to 4.5 megs each). This means that a person has the opportunity to manipulate an image, zoom in, crop, and alter color with any graphics program.
An artist will need a computer which has enough megs of RAM (more than 30 megs) and a graphic program such as "Photoshop," "Graphics Converter," etc. to read the images. An artist should also have a color printer so that the images can be reduced, compressed and transferred onto hard copy for mounting on your easel. Of course, your computer will need to have a CD reader or access to a reader. All new computers today have a CD reader.
